How a free demo class works
A bounded live demo is currently a free grant, used once per teacher and learner, and a parent approves it where the learner is a minor.

What it is
A live demo is a short class with one teacher, so you can see how they explain before you book anything longer. Today the bounded live demo is a free grant. It is not a paid product, and no card is asked for.
How it works
- You choose a teacher who has opted in to demos and has an open slot.
- You ask for the demo. The teacher has to accept it before the class is confirmed. Until they accept, no slot is promised.
- Where the learner is under 18, a parent or guardian approves what is booked.
- The class runs in a room TruTutor sets up, so nobody needs to share a phone number.
- Afterwards the teacher can record what was covered. A parent only sees that record after the teacher confirms its exact wording.
The limits, stated plainly
- A free demo can be used once for a given teacher and learner. Asking for a second one with the same teacher is refused.
- It is free for now. If TruTutor ever adds paid demo terms, they will be shown before you approve anything, and not before the current release checks pass.
- A demo is a booking, not progress. Whether it helped is a separate question, answered by what the teacher confirms.
If the demo is not right
You are not locked in. The First Class Promise covers your first class with a teacher: another verified teacher for the same need. The money-back option opens at paid launch, and during the beta the promise is a rematch at no cost.
