The short answer
If a teacher cancels a confirmed class, the learner is refunded in full. The teacher is not paid for a class that did not happen, and a rematch is opened so you do not have to start again.
Why you can rely on it
TruTutor holds the payment between when you pay and when the class is delivered and confirmed. It is not passed to the teacher in advance, so a cancelled class has nothing to claw back from anyone.
A teacher who does not turn up is treated the same way: if the teacher has not joined within 15 minutes of the start, the class counts as a teacher no-show and you are refunded in full.
During the beta
Paid offers are free during the beta and nothing is charged, so a refund moves no money. The record is still made, so the rule works the same way it will at paid launch. Online payments need a payment provider, Razorpay, which is not connected yet.
What we have not published
The exact windows and amounts for families who cancel are a legal and accounting decision that is not signed off, so they are not on this page. The cancellation and refund page will carry them when they are.
What staff do
A person decides refunds. Asking for a refund starts a decision; it is not the decision itself. A teacher who cancels often or at short notice is put in front of staff for review.
For teachers
Cancelling a confirmed class means the learner is refunded in full and you earn nothing for it. Cancelling is only possible before the class starts; after that it is attendance, which has its own state.
