How teacher ratings work
Three kinds of proof, not one blended number: what families say, what families did, and what was verified.
Who can rate
Only the parent on the booking, or the learner if they are 13 or over, after a class that really happened. A teacher cannot rate, staff cannot rate, and nobody who was not in the class can.
- TruTutor asks, never the teacher: after the first class, after the fourth, then about once a month.
- One voice per family per teacher per 30 days. A newer answer replaces an older one.
- Learners under 13 are rated through their parent. A learner's written words stay private.
What a profile shows
- What families say: how many families would book this teacher again, and how many said yes to four plain questions. Shown once five families have answered, with a star rating beside it, never on its own.
- What families did: how many came back for more, and how many classes were held as scheduled. Shown after ten completed classes.
- What was verified: Outcome Receipts that someone other than the teacher accepted. Shown after three.
- Below those floors the profile says New teacher. We would rather say that than show a number we cannot stand behind.
How a rating stays honest
- Answers are sealed. A teacher never sees who said what, or a score for one class. Feedback reaches them in anonymous batches of three or more, after they have written their own private note for the class.
- Ranking uses what families did and what was verified far more than what they said. Adjusting for how much evidence there is means a teacher with 300 reviews gets no extra points for having 300.
- A new verified teacher is offered one of the top four places while their record builds. It is labelled New on TruTutor and involves no money.
- Nobody can pay to change a rating, and nothing can be offered in return for one.
Replies, concerns and removal
- A teacher can reply once, in public, to each written review.
- A teacher can raise a concern. Staff decide within five working days, a second person hears any appeal, and until then the review stays visible and is labelled.
- A review is removed only for a listed reason: not about this teacher's teaching, names a child, abuse or hate, a conflict of interest, a class that never happened, or content that breaks the law. Being negative is never a reason.
